"Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt." Each of us will face difficulties in our lives, and while we will not always win or be successful, the way we face these adversities will provide a true measure of our character. While we hope these words would be used to describe our abilities and the attitude we demonstrate when confronted with any challenge, this motto identifies a special group of Missourians – Missouri's Special Olympians.
This year's recipient recognizes the importance of public service and Missouri Special Olympics. For the past three years, Corporal Mark D. Green, Troop D, has worked tirelessly to raise money for God's special children – Missouri's Special Olympians. Through the sale of T-shirts and matching funds, Corporal Green raised nearly $10,000 in 2001. These sales represented nearly one-third of the total sales in Troop D. His caring and commitment ensured funds were available to allow these athletes the opportunity to participate in many worthwhile events throughout the year. Corporal Green's actions are a credit to him and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
