Fred M. Mills MASTERS Public Service Award 2021
Sergeant Jeffrey D. Fugett was presented The Fred M. Mills MASTERS Public Service Award in Columbia, Missouri on April 30, 2022.
Sergeant Jeffery D. Fugett, Troop D, began his career with the Missouri State Highway Patrol on August 1, 1998, as a member of the 75th Recruit Class. Sergeant Fugett has volunteered for Special Olympics Missouri since 1999 and is the Troop D coordinator and Region 3 law enforcement coordinator for 23 counties in Southwest Missouri. As the region representative, he coordinates and assists law enforcement agencies with torch runs, fund-raising, and planning other events. Sergeant Fugett has served on the Summer Games management team for 12 years. He has served on the Polar Plunge committee since 2004, and is a six-time “super plunger,” jumping into the lake every hour for 24 straight hours. Sergeant Fugett is a member of Unified Special Olympics softball and football teams where Special Olympic athletes and non-Special Olympic athletes compete together on the same team. In addition to volunteering in Southwest Missouri, Sergeant Fugett makes himself available throughout Missouri, has participated in the final leg of the Torch Run at the World Games in China, and twice coached the Team USA basketball team. He attends the International Torch Run Conference to collaborate with law enforcement agencies from around the world to bring back new ideas to Missouri. Most importantly, Special Olympics Missouri athletes call Sergeant Fugett their friend. He is a tremendous example of how Missouri state troopers should conduct themselves on and off duty. The Fred M. Mills MASTERS Public Service Award honors Sergeant Jeffery D. Fugett’s professional and personal service to the people of Missouri.
